Over the past century, many Jewish businessmen have acted to supportthe Jewish people and the State of Israel. Not many, however, have had the vision, drive, contacts, and resources to make a significant impact like Adam Milstein. Not only did he establish one of the world’s leadingJewish-American organizations, the Israeli-American Council (IAC), but he has also contributed to many other prominent Jewish organizations, including StandWithUs, the Israel on Campus Coalition (ICC), Hasbara Fellowships, and American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF).
In 2017, London-based Richtopia named Adam Milstein one of the Top 200 World Influencers for his thought leadership in shaping proactive global philanthropy and social media entrepreneurship and in 2018 Richtopia named him One of World’s 100 Most Influential Philanthropists. He has also been named one of the 50 Most Influential Jewish Figures by The Jerusalem Post, one of the Top 100 People Positively Influencing Jewish Life by The Algemeiner, and one of the 25 Most Influential People on Jewish Twitter by Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA). For Milstein, his lifelong aspiration has been to set an example for the upcoming generations and inspire youngJewish leaders who are looking to make a profoundimpact.
In response to these accolades, Adam Milstein said, “Since my wife Gila and I embarked on our philanthropic journey, our lives have been enriched in more ways than we could have ever imagined. We fully embrace the joy of giving back just as we employ the social media platforms that help philanthropists amplify our impact around the world.”
Milstein and his wife have devoted an extraordinary amount of time and money to action philanthropy. In the early 2000s, they established the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation (MFF) to help make a difference. Like with any successful business venture, Milstein realized that he must be fully committed to his philanthropic investments, not only by contributing financial resources but also by sharing his business vision, connections, marketing skills, operational know-how, foundation staff time, and constant focus on improving the effectiveness of the supported programs. This has beenthe rootofMilstein’s key principle of active philanthropy:funding projects while remaining actively engaged to ensuremeaningful impact and building synergies between a variety of organizations.
When Milstein started his philanthropic journey, he could see that philanthropy was much more than a monetary donation—it is an opportunity to advance leadership and courage for future generations.Milstein realized that active advocacy is the key to ensuring younger generationsare aware of and invested in their Jewish origins, which ultimately results in Jewish pride that strengthens the State of Israel. Milstein thereforecontributes histime and resources to dozens of organizations that are making an impact in Jewish and Israel education.
For example, Milstein has supported the American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF) by donating more than one million dollarsayear. By committing these funds to AIEF, he helps provide about 50 college students each year with the opportunity to visit Israel fora dynamic educational experience. By exploring the country firsthand, they gain a deeper understanding of Israel and the American-Israeli relationship.
“The AIEF program was an unparalleled experience; the ability to be in Israel allowed me to discover my personal connection to its history, people, and places,” said a student from the University of Nevada who had the opportunity to benefit from the annual trips to Israel funded by Milstein.
Milstein’s philanthropic leadership is also demonstrated through his work with the Impact Forum. Founded in 2017, the Impact Forum is a pro-Israel network of donors who focus their collaborations for maximumeffectiveness. This has made Milstein capable of advancing his philanthropic work even further, with the aid of a network of non-profit organizations dedicated to fighting antisemitism, strengthening the State of Israel, and advancing the U.S.-Israel alliance.
Milstein’s collaborative and impact-focused approach to philanthropy has contributedtremendously to the Impact Forum’s success. The Impact Forum has raised more than $3.5 million to date for nearly 50 organizations. Such an optimizedimpact was only possible through building synergies and therefore force multipliersbetween many organizations, something in which Adam Milstein played a vital part.
Adamcontinues to influence young Jewish men and women by promoting an activist way of life and passing down inspiringstories from the Jewish tradition, such as the heroic rebellionof the Maccabees in the Land of Israel against the Greek Empire, celebrated today as Hanukkah. This story reminds us that the Jewish people have always fought for their freedom and they will continue proudly fighting to maintain this hard-earned freedom.
